The first high-quality reference genome sequence for the Alpine chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra) was produced as part of the Biodiversity Genomics Europe Project. Profs. Elena Bužan (Section Chair of the Taxonomy and Genetics Symposium) and Boštjan Pokorny (Chair of the Local Organising Committee) also participated in the study. As representatives of the research team that identified the reference genome, they shared their insights on the Alpine chamois, the importance of the species for the Alpine environment and local communities, the many applications of a new reference genome, and the importance of cooperation with different stakeholders to ensure effective conservation and sustainable management of the species.
